As we’ve matured as an industry, more and more 360 video production tutorials and handouts have been produced. Here is a collection I have so far.
CUNY’s Intro to Shooting in 360
One of the first guides was produced by by Bob Sacha, Matt MacVey and Guglielmo Mattioli, colleagues at CUNY.
Their handout is specifically for when using the Samsung Gear 360 camera, but has some great insights that apply to all production.

Crafting Stories for Virtual Reality
Friends Melissa Bosworth and Lakshmi Sarah, out of Berkeley, have produced immersive stories under the name Tiny World Productions.
Most recently they wrote a textbook called Crafting Stories for Virtual Reality. Lots of research and interviews – including one with me – makes this book a viable textbook for classrooms: https://craftingstoriesforvr.com/
How to make a 360 video, step by step
The newest and most thorough practical guide comes from friend Sarah Redohl, creator of Immersive Shooter. She tackles every aspect in her series How to make a 360 video, step by step.
The collection is located here: http://bit.ly/360-step-by-step
Immersive Shooter is a fantastic resource for those producing immersive, non-fiction experiences. From camera reviews to interviews with industry pioneers, this is made by us for us. (Disclosure: I am a co-founder and Editor at Large.)
Additional help
While he hasn’t done one in a while, one of our early go to YouTube channels was Alex Pearce Productions, run by Pearce. He produced these videos for his dad, I believe, but informed many of us. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCX6CTa70-x6P0yDg_NVmF9g/videos
Over the years, my students and I have informally recorded video tutorials to help incoming classes. It’s on my list to do more formal ones, but for more support here is a collection of some of our tutorials: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ztsuHNqL3h0&list=PLnJxz9VUBHD5A4-Da9BIxty8y7HHrpcfA
Last is my own VR tip sheet I created years ago and try to occasionally update. It has a collection of resources that can help get you started on your immersive storytelling journey. You can get it here: http://bit.ly/vrtipsheet
